“In The Balance is a piece about the power and consequence of words. A single word could make or break a person, and often we feel as though we are hanging in the balance as we wait for those words to be delivered, spoken, or read... Swaying ever so carefully like a park swing in a light breeze... until that gust of wind comes that could elevate us or decimate us depending on the circumstance.”

Krissy Whiski

Impermanence, 2024. Acrylic painting on Canvas, “24x36”, $2592

You felt the land taking you back to what was there a hundred years ago, to what had been there always." — V.S. Naipaul

“This piece is a meditation on impermanence, aging, mortality, decay, and the eternal cycles of nature. In creating this painting, I aimed to capture the tranquility, beauty, and grace, inherent in the temporal progression of mortality—a journey shared by all living things. The figure of a woman, seamlessly returning back into the natural world, as a part of it, embodies the theme. Her closed eyes suggest the imminence of death, while her serene smile reveals her peaceful acceptance of this journey. I chose this piece for the Dichotomy show as I feel it is a reflection of the mortal and the eternal and how they exist together as part of nature’s cycle in the passing of time.”

Miraculously, mountain lions still survive in the second largest city in the U.S., Los Angeles. I used a reference photo from Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area biologists to paint these two adorable mountain lion kittens who are threatened by habitat loss, fragmentation by freeways, and rat poisons. 20% of the proceeds from the sale of this painting will be donated to Save L.A. Cougars to support the Wallis Annenberg Wildlife Crossing over the 101 freeway at Liberty Canyon north of L.A. When finished, this wildlife crossing will be one of the largest on Earth, and will reconnect wildlife habitat and reduce car strikes of all wild animals.
