“On September 27th, 2021, Vladimir Putin said that “Russia would not hesitate to use all weapons systems available in response to a threat to his territorial integrity.” — “The consequences of even a so-called ‘limited nuclear war’ would be absolutely catastrophic and so I set out to paint this ominous threat.”

In European folklore and myth, the Erlking (literally translated "alder king”) is a sinister supernatural being; a dark fairy king who lingers in the woods. He stalks children who stay in the forest for too long, lures them with promises and kills them by a single touch. I illustrated the poem Johann Wolfgang von Goethe wrote in 1782. It tells the story of a father riding through the woods with his child in his arms, to bring him to safety. The anxious young boy can see and hear the Erlking speaking to him, while his father can’t:
Who rides there so late through the night dark and drear?
The father it is, with his infant so dear;
He holdeth the boy tightly clasped in his arm,
He holdeth him safely, he keepeth him warm.
"My son, wherefore seek'st thou thy face thus to hide?" –
"Look, father, the Erlking is close by our side!
Do you see not the Erlking, with crown and with train?" –
"My son, 'tis only the mist rising over the plain." –
"Oh, come, thou dear child! Come thou with me!
For many a game, I will play there with thee;
On my strand, lovely flowers their blossoms unfold,
My mother shall grace thee with garments of gold." –
"My father, my father, and do thou not hear?
The words that the Erlking now breathes in mine ear?" –
"Be calm, dearest child, 'tis thy fancy deceives;
'Tis the sad wind that sighs through the withering leaves." –
"Wilt go, then, dear boy, wilt go with me there?
My daughters shall tend thee with sisterly care;
My daughters by night their glad festival keep,
They'll dance thee, and rock thee, and sing thee to sleep." –
"My father, my father, and dost thou not see,
How the ErlKing his daughters has brought here for me?" –
"My darling, my darling, I see it aright,
'Tis the aged grey willows deceiving thy sight." –
"I love thee, I'm charm'd by thy beauty, dear boy!
And if thou'rt unwilling, then force I'll employ!" –
"My father, my father, he seizes me fast,
For sorely, the ErlKing has hurt me at last." –
The father now gallops, with terror half wild,
He grasps in his arms the poor shuddering child;
He reaches his courtyard with toil and with dread, –
The child in his arms he finds motionless, is dead.

“Sallies are water fae that can live in amphibian thriving environments near fresh water sources. They are distant relatives to axolotl salamander species. This species of Sallie can speak a variety of pond and river flora and fauna. Depending on the personality of each Sallie, some can learn to communicate in a variety of other languages, including human languages. They can be bartered for favors & tricks upon others if you bring them river stones as gifts (they use these stones to build new beautiful homes or to add additions to their current homes for themselves near water edges). “
